The Unwritten Etiquette Of Moving Home

Moving home is considered one of life’s most stressful events, although it’s an exciting new chapter for many, the reality of the situation may not be as easy going. There is not written etiquette for moving home; hence why so many people find it stressful because nobody has any basic guidelines of how to get the job done efficiently and effectively.

That’s why we are here to help! This simple guide is a basis on how to get the job done quickly and what to do, what not to do and hopefully will alleviate some of the stress too.

Do as you would expect!

When moving into a new home, the last thing you would want to do is spend hours cleaning it, prior to unpacking. The same goes for anyone who is about to move into the home you have left behind too! Be helpful to the next person, and clean the house effectively and if possible, ask for the same treatment at the new property, be vocal about what you want. If you want your new home deep cleaned, be sure to let the seller or agent know about it.

Leave a note!

It’s very daunting moving into a new home; you have no idea how the boiler works, how the central heating system works, how to lock windows and doors and what days rubbish removals are on. Little things like this may not have entered your mind, but the truth is its very significant to the new owner. Unless you are renting a new home you are pretty much left to it (when it comes to knowing about all those little things) so why not give your new buyers a helping hand by listing down some of the basics, they will most definitely thank you for it. Also, ask for the same; there is no harm in asking!

Welcoming!

Everyone appreciates a warm welcome, and during such a stressful time in your life, it’s a lovely gesture to make. A simple card, gift, bottle of wine, flowers, or a note welcoming the new owners to your old property is one of the most thoughtful gestures you can offer. It will not go unnoticed, and it will undoubtedly be appreciated by the new owners.

Learn from old mistakes!

We all make mistakes in life, it’s a fact, but if you’ve had previous bad experiences with regards to moving or maybe didn’t do things appropriately last time, learn from them! We make mistakes, but we gain valuable knowledge from previous experiences. Each time we do something, we undoubtedly do things better next time. So, if you didn’t make the kind gestures mentioned above last time, why not do it this time? It’s helpful to the new owners and thoughtful of you to think of others during a stressful time in their lives.

The ideas we have listed are generally encouraged by estate agents Lucan, just simple gestures that can make a little difference to someone’s life, and that’s ultimately what it is all about.
